endometriosis yoga

If you think yoga can cure your Endometriosis, I'm sorry to disappoint you. Endometriosis is not curable to this day - not through a special diet, not by taking the pill and not through yoga.

Why do I nevertheless offer endometriosis yoga? I recently discussed this with a friend. There are many things you can do to improve the symptoms of endometriosis. It's kind of a big pot of methods. In this pot, there are things that you can integrate into your life in a sustainable way and things that are simply not compatible with your life or that you dislike. Nutrition is a big thing, but surgery can also help, the right exercise, TCM, etc. Yoga is one part in this pot.

In my opinion, you can’t integrate all the methods out there into your life in a sustainable way. Then you would have almost no life left to live.

In my opinion, you can't integrate all the methods out there into your life in a sustainable way. If you did, you would have almost no life left to live. It's about picking out the methods that are practicable and that allow for exceptions. If you see yoga as a sustainable part of your endo health, then I am very happy that you found your way to this website.

This is what yoga can offer for your Endo health:

Movement

In Endo Yin, we focus on the muscles, tendons and ligaments in the pelvic region. The piriformis muscle (below the gluteus maximus) or the psoas muscle (large hip flexor) are big stars in Endo Yin. Lesions or injuries from surgery can press on nerves and cause pain. Individual muscles can also be tense because sufferers often adopt a posture of protection. Targeted stretching and relaxation of these areas of the body can help.

In Endo Yin, we also take care to regularly stretch and move the fasciae. Pain receptors run through the fasciae and these run through the whole body. You can imagine fascia as a complex network that holds everything together like the white part of an orange. Everything is interconnected. The fasciae in the little finger are connected to those in the big toe. If fascia becomes sticky (this happens, for example, due to relieving posture), it does not glide properly and can cause pain.

Slowing down

Endometriosis is strongly linked to the immune system, which is why we need to take special care of it. Chronic stress weakens the immune system. We can counteract this well with Endo Yin. Mediation, slowing down and relaxing is one of the main tasks of Endo Yin.

Strengthening the body

I feel extremely weak during my period. However, the more muscles and endurance I have in general, the better I perform physical tasks - even during hard times.

The yoga asana practice strengthens the entire body. The healthier and stronger your body is, the faster you can recover after flare ups, the better your muscles are supplied with blood and the stronger your immune system is. The yoga asanas are perfect, as it is a low impact practice.

Relationship with yourself

Yoga is not a work-out - it's a work-in. You've probably heard this phrase before. Yoga is a philosophy, a way of life. Yoga asanas (the movement on the mat) is only a small part of it. The yoga philosophy is aimed at a content, independent and loving life.

Endometriosis is a chronic disease, which means that at least once a month there are moments when we have to cancel appointments, perhaps don't like our bodies, or there are similar situations that we don't enjoy. Here it is important to treat ourselves with respect and love. In yoga, we practice this every day, because yoga doesn't take a break. Yoga is an inner attitude.

So, Yoga is not a healing method for Endo, but it can help dealing with the illness. The yoga asana practice helps us calm down and stretch / relax / strengthen the affected body parts. The yoga philosophy can help accepting our condition, and calming us down. Yoga is a wonderful tool in a huge toolbox. Maybe it’s one for you.
